A very good review about the main topics in economics and finance, unfortunately (lyke many US/European books) the only “international” section is the upstream contracts discussion. The other ones use examples related with USA. Nevertheless, a good reference book.

This book is interesting and the information within is timely and valuable. The most impressive thing to me was the liberal use of charts, and references within the book that actually work perfectly in a digital format. I read it on both my pc and tablet and the re sizing of the images and the ability to quickly return to page after clicking on a link for a resource is very nice. I often have books that if I click on a link to appendix it will not get me back to where I was.The one thing I would like to see done, a lot of work, but it has a fabulous index that appears in back, but of course no page numbers but also no links back to book locations.The book was so informative and easy to use that it enticed me to purchase two other from the Robert Kolb series. I had never been aware of this series but I can see myself working my way through the majority of them if they are as well done and written as this one.

"Energy Finance and Economics" is an excellent book for the student who is seeking to learn more about the industry or for the industry professional that needs a refresher on how the industry operates. The book provides the layperson an excellent starting point for an introduction to the world of energy finance and also provides sound, accurate data for industry professionals seeking to brush up on his or her skills. I would not recommend this book to someone with absolutely no knowledge of finance though. The book assumes the reader has at least had some exposure to finance.After taking a college course utilizing this book as its required text and being an industry professional myself, I found that I was still able to learn a great deal from each chapter. The book is exceptionally informative and will remain in my library for quite some time as a reference guide when I need to look something up for work. It is also a relatively easy read. It is not too boring for those of us who have an active interest in the topics of energy and finance.

This book is very well laid out and covers topics in a real world setting rather than in academic theory. I was able to see why the material was selected and why each example was used in this book. I took Betty Simkins course at Oklahoma State on my own time after I purchased the book and she is extremely knowledgeable, easy to approach and an industry experienced lady. I was further impressed when the company I recently joined gives a copy of this book to each employee for review and reference...and the management has no ties to Oklahoma State University or to the Simkins'.Very good purchase and you will be happy you took the time to read.

This book is one of the most comprehenisve works on the O&G industry I have ver read. It covers a wide range of topics gives a complete review of the essentials for the aspiring professional.

As a working professional in Oil and Gas as well as a part time graduate student I found this book very relevant to the current industry environment, not just a class necessity. Even after completing the class I refer to it on a regular basis.

DV is an autobiography about one of the most influential people of the 20th century. A woman who was born into more tha a little wealth, wearing haute couture as a youngster, from Coco Chanel, herself, while being regarded as an "ugly duckling" by her own mother. She grew up to become one of the world's most alluring women. Her sway over pop culture and fashion, her domineering lust for beauty and her great love for youth and diversity created a template that is unparalleled. She had made the definitive case for fashion, especially haute couture, as an art form. Her sense of rigor, discipline, style, beauty and fantasy are the stuff of which any true culture is made. The true testament of her unerring eye is that everyone she chose to discover are icons of their field, to this day. Every. Single. One. The book is a testament to her taste level. Were she male, scholarships, schools & awards would be executed in her name. However, because she's seen as an "eccentric" and being female, she is not viewed as a true American who has contributed to the taste and status of America, independent of Europe.As Patrick Swayze's character, Miss Vida Boheme, stated so eloquently in "To Wong Foo:Thanks For Evberything, Julie Newmar", buy it, read it, then, commit sections to memory. Snap!

This is a true memoire - the recollections of a dynamically original woman whose influence will be felt for years to come. It is not absolutely factual, and no one will care! Diana Vreeland's career is astonishing. I remember seeing the amazing shows that she curated at the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum - a great climax to an amazing career. And lest anyone think that fashion is trivial, it is a driving force of the world- which can be positive or negative. This book should be purchased along with Vreeland's documentary "The Eye needs to Travel" - hearing Vreeland's voice is essential.

Outrageous, colorful, and in no way 100% true, D.V. is an all around fun read! The vignettes of such larger than life characters such as Coco Chanel, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Charles Revson (he always had a look in his eyes), Aly Khan, General de Gaulle, and the rather dizzying array of other 20th century personalities who are given the D.V. treatment are pure fun. The inimitable Mrs. V. addresses the reader as if the two of you are nestled in a comfy corner in her living room, and she's confiding her memoirs, mixed with the advice a favorite aunt would give.I loved the descriptions of Mrs. V's personal style, from the cheapness of prewar couture, to the Chinese red nail lacquer, to her introduction of the thong sandal to America. I adored it all; the flamboyance, the insouciant commentaries on American hypocrisy, the rather sly way she comments on her dismissal from Vogue. What a personality!I'm off to search for a lady's maid; some shoes whose soles are worthy of polishing, so I can cross my legs in confidence; and for some silk underclothes in greige. Oh, wait. You say that's not possible in this day and age? No doubt the divine Mrs. V. would find a suitable replacement, and with her trademark style. If only she was still around!

I've heard that not every word of "D.V." is necessarily, you know, true. Well, whatever. In an age of fraud and being less than truthful to the public, it's permissible here because D.V. has such a good time, and really, we'll never know with someone who led a life that epitomized the meaning of glamor and style. D.V. is from the era just before tabloidery, going commando, and movie stars traveling with stylists, and her memoir is less about real events than how one person decided to do it all in grand style. While I usually balk at any personal histories that seem a bit too much on the "so privileged, la-di-dah" side, D.V.'s prose reveals only her elegance and her joy at being around style and trendsetting in all its forms - art, achievement, derring-do.Her madcap writing, asides, and tangents provide little snippets about how she felt people ought to comport themselves, and if you aren't terribly on the very serious side, you will enjoy it or at least enjoy getting to know Mrs. Vreeland. Let's hope that we make a return to style being something more than where you got your hat. Or let's bring back hats.

I just loved this book - I couldn't stop chuckling - one of the campiest things I've read since all the Patrick Dennis novels. I actually thought it was a straight forward biography, and I purchased it after watching a documentary of her on Amazon Prime, but I was pleasantly surprised to find it much more - after all, if I had wanted straight biography I could read wikipedia!

I am 99% sure that most of this is complete fabrication (polishing the soles of your shoes?) but I don't care. Diana Vreeland was a fashion icon who literally changed the way that fashion was done. From putting ethnic models on the pages of Vogue to championing designers who would become legends, she is responsible for the way fashion is reported today. This book is not only a must-have for lovers of fashion, it's the best ride since "Auntie Mame."

The haughty ruler of Didd, King Derwin (who would foolishly go on to summon green goo from the sky in his later years) showed the first signs of his silly self-importance back in this 1938 Seuss classic, The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins. When Bartholomew visits town one day, selling cranberries at the market for his parents, the King's procession screeches to a halt in front of him; King Derwin then leans out of his coach, demanding to know why Bartholomew hasn't respectfully removed his hat. "But, Sire, my hat is off." He shows the king the hat in his hands that he's just doffed, but sure enough, another identical one sits atop his head. He takes that hat off only to reveal another... and another, and another, and another. Poor Bartholomew goes through 45 hats, then 136, then 233, as the angry king calls in every expert in the kingdom, from Sir Snipps the haberdasher to the Father of the Father of Nadd. In the end, Bartholomew barely gets away with his head (forget about the hats!), as Seuss spins this weird and wacky tale, a strange thing that "just happened to happen and was not very likely to happen again." I did not like this book. Not your regular Dr. Seuss books. It doesn't rhyme. Also, there are magicians that do an incantation. I've learned not to read words you don't know. I would not recommend!

I read this book to my children and now my grandchildren. These are books to grow up with. Today there are a lot of other popular books, but there is nothing as good as Dr Seuss. One grandma's opinion.

Great lesser known book by Dr Seuss. Fun story with underlying message.

Old favorite reaquired. 1938 printing in good condition.

Dr. Seuss is always good to read to grandchildren, until they become able to read it to you!

I really like this book, as a Sociology major college student, this book really helps break down social issues and history in concise explanations. I love the info graphics as well as the colors. Well organized, I believe this book can be helpful and applied in any field of life.

We got our son all the books from this line - Sociology, psychology, economics, history, and philosophy. They are great and easy to follow with lots of graphs and pictures. Our son is a freshman in high school and has no problem following the chapters. Great for reference as well!

It's a great introductory book to an interesting form of science and subject, it has a lot of important people, subfields and terminology that you can further research. The ideas are simplified but not over simplified so that it's easier to grasp and later search and explore more about. I also like it's sleek, simple design, with it's side notes/little biographies, pictures and diagrams that come together cohesively.

Phenomenal for those seeking collegiate level principles in a well arranged, chronology of the development of sociology.Excellent gift or coffee table read

I didn't like the way they organize the book; I own some of the book of the series and these is my least favorite. I sometimes got confused because they kept going back and forth. Felt like the book wasn't what I was looking for. Is not as useful in Sociology as is the Psychology one.

Any textbook dealing on a specific subject matter in a easy to read and follow format get 5 stars. As a sociologist and professor, it is really tough getting students to read there textbooks. Many find them boring or 'dry', which I tend to agree with them for some. This book provides great insight into theories, sociologists, and concepts in an easy to follow format. However it could never replace an Introduction to Sociology college textbook because it does not cover everything. It is an overview.
