Richard C. Miller, PhD, is a clinical psychologist, author, researcher, scholar, and meditation teacher. For over forty years, he has devoted his life and work to integrating the teachings of Yoga, Tantra, Advaita, Taoism, and Buddhism with Western psychology. Miller is founding president of the Integrative Restoration Institute and cofounder of the International Association of Yoga Therapists. He was a founding member and past president of the Institute for Spirituality and Psychology, and serves as a senior advisor to the Baumann Foundation.Foreword writer Eric B. Schoomaker, MD, PhD, is a retired US Lieutenant General, as well as former US Army Surgeon General and Commanding General of the US Army Medical Command. He is an internal medicine physician with a PhD in human genetics. What a wonderful book. Don't let the title fool you. You don't have to have PTSD to benefit from iRest. It's fantastic for everyone.Presented is clear, and easily accessible language, you'll learn a ton about yourself. The exercises are fantastic and Richard's voice is so soothing. (You can download a few at their website for free.)Spoilers: Yes, you are this time bound, frightened, excitable little being floating in an endless sea of change. But you're also this unbounded, unbroken, peaceful, joyful being fascinated by this game of life. iRest gives us all the tools we need to navigate the bumps and traumas in life without loosing our love of life.

Most of the first part of the book was about insight. The author identified with the conditions in most of their manifestations. I, personally, have gone through many of the emotions, dreams, and the consequences of actions that should have not been taken. The second part of the book deals with ways of coping. I would call it auto-hypnosis without the command to do or be whatever it is that one wants to do or be. It is simply focusing one's own reality. It's hard and very time consuming, but failing to find a magic potion I can see no other way of dealing with it. The book promises a "cure" at the end of the "road," but it does not say how long the road is nor how long it would take. Obviously it is subjective. So, I say read and do as best you can and you'll probably feel some relief, as I have.

Richard Miller presents the iRest Program for Healing PTSD in an informative style that is easily understandable and applicable to practice by clinicians. I have used iRest (yoga nidra) with clients and they have found it tremendously helpful, restorative, and healing. I highly recommend this book.

I find the descriptions of certain concepts and even medical terminology to be poorly written. For instance, HRV and RSA, which I simply had to go to another source to get the definition. "Heartfelt mission" is a bit murky too, and I feel the writing is too repetitive. Still a valuable book though.

Introduced to this through a Yoga Nidra class.The accompanying mp3 meditations are most helpful. (I think I purchased those separately at the iRest website)What they say is true, 15 minutes of iRest meditation feels like hours of restorative sleep

This program to help feel and release difficult emotions has helped me more than any other technique to accept and move past the after effects of trauma. I use it on other life issues with success as well.

Remarkable program with techniques for not only dealing with trauma by becoming aware of awareness, but some that I have included in both secular meditation and Buddhist meditation classes I teach.

This simple to read yet highly transformative book is a must read for anyone who is wanting to experience life in a deeper, more meaningful way. Dr. Miller's 10 step protocol that is detailed in this book reads like a modern day life manual to experiencing life, and ourselves just as we are. This is not a "fix it" manual. Rather it serves as a road map into accessing the deep acceptance and well-being that naturally resides within, even amongst trauma,illness or dis-ease. Since discovering the author's first book " Yoga Nidra: A Meditative Practice for Deep Relaxation and Healing" I have been integrating iRest while going about my daily life. What I have experienced has been deeply enriching. I have discovered more peace, clarity and joy then I have ever imagined. My suggestion is that when you read this fantastic book... do so slowly. Kathy and Bruce pleasantly and concisely bring the case for the way humanity must approach food, if we are to live a fair number of decades or centuries longer. Great recipes make it a complete "how-to" book as well. Glad to see a recipe index AND a subject index!

I'll read anything by Kathy Freston since she's been instrumental in helping me construct a healthier diet for myself and my family over the years. This book has a little drier tone than her previous books, perhaps due to her co-author, but addresses the subject of protein consumption, jousting with the notion that so many hold that we must eat meat to get adequate protein. Also delving into the future of faux meat production was a heads up for me about what we may be finding in groceries in the future. Heartening news too about how the shift to plant-based and faux meat production will rapidly and effectively clean up the environmental issues that factory farming now create. She's always been on the cutting edge of the plant-based revolution and her personal beauty reflects the work she's done and the diet she's lobbying for.

Well written by authors Kathy Fireston/Bruce Friedrich , throughly enjoyed reading I think it will be very helpful for new vegetarians especially shopping,stocking pantry etc.Overall it is very interesting fascinating read.Good luck Authors.

I give this book high marks for its general accessibility to people who have not really ever thought much about vegan (or vegetarian) diets.I have been a vegetarian for my whole adult life, and a vegan when it has been feasible to be one. That’s a sort of bubble, I guess: I am used to interacting mostly with people who are familiar with the ethical and health claims of a plant-based diet even if they are not persuaded by them. But this book and the reactions to it drive home a salutary point: there really are a lot of people out therr who have thought very little about plant-based diets, and not a small number who think a priori that a (more) vegan diet is unhealthy, unpalatable, difficult to follow, etc. A number of them are probably unpersuadable: they are just SURE that it would be unhealthy/unpalatable/impossibly difficult to move closer to a vegan diet.Will this book persuade them? I can’t say that I am optimistic. We’ve now had decades of nutritionists explaining why more plant-based diets are healthy, decades of excellent vegetarian and vegan chefs and cookbooks, decades of authors explaining how heavy the burden of meat consumption is for the planet. So...I found myself wondering: just who is this book FOR? If there are still so many people not interested in listening to the many plant-based diet arguments, would they be persuaded by this book? I can’t say that I am optimistic. And, as anyone who closely follows books and research on vegetarian/vegan diets knows, there are many, many books out there that are clearer/better written/more thoughtful.As a number of other reviewers have remarked, the recipes in the book are really quite awful. There are SO many good vegan recipes out there, and so many that are easy and free of fake food (vegan ‘sausages,’ etc). The inclusion of so many recipes likely enough to turn people off vegan cooking is an utter mystery.Four stars for trying. Three for actual results. Two stars for the recipes.

Another great book by Kathy Freston. Never afraid to tell it like it is, in a contemporary relatable way. Any questions on clean Protein are answered in this book.

Great book for unexpected points of interest!

The Jonglez "Secret" Guides would inspire me to take an apartment in the city for a couple of weeks and everyday I would choose one of the more hidden sights included in the book. I have now been to Rome a couple of times and I would love to do this and discover things above and beyond the traditional must see things, like the Colosseum, Trajan's Column etc. So, this is a great starting point. A tour of Angelica Library which is Rome's oldest public library... why are there sofas on Via Giulia? Whilst in Via Giulia pop into the Hypogeum Cemetery of Santa Maria Dell'Orazione...And how amazing is this: a trip to the Chiesa Nuova on a Saturday evening - a Rubens painting is wound down by remote control to reveal an icon of the Virgin Mary. For something more modern, try the Palazzetto Bianco, a very unusual building constructed early 21st Century.So there is more than enough to keep any visitor happily occupied for many, many days and it's just a bit unusual.
