I've read other books by this author and as usual his research is there to see. The fact that it's not just a standard "ninja" book that shows you the weapons and such is refreshing, reading about the tools and weapons is great but reading about the history behind these things and the ninja themselves is a real treat.

Excellent Read! If you are interested in the "REAL NINJA" minus all the fiction, you'll love this. It shows how the Ninja became the Legendary Warriors they were & cuts through much of the Myths that have made many laugh and feel Ninja were never anything but that. They were REAL and, sadly, their actual art is probably lost forever. I really enjoyed this!

The book reads like a thesis paper. The language is dry but not particularly difficult. However, the information is exciting! The book is also very honest about which information is reliable and tries to dry it's conclusions from multiple sources. Hence four stars...maybe five if you want something factual and don't mind dry.

Highly recommended. This book covers a lot of ground concerning the history of ninjutsu. Not only does it dispel a great deal of misunderstanding, but it also includes a lot of translated material concerning shinobi-densho & makimono (manuals / scrolls) not found anywhere else in English. The author, Antony Cummins did an excellent job at the design and layout in addition to the written format. Fantastic book.

Not fake, phony, knockoff, imitation/fantasy ninjutsu that has been written about by these wannabe ninja authors...... Ashida Kim, Haha Lung, Stephen K Hayes, and Masaaki Hatsumi. Mr Antony Cummins books are amazing. Nevre before has such information about the ninja been available until Antony Cummins wrote and translated his books. Before him, Phony nerds like Ashida Kim, Haha Lung, Stephen K Hayes, and Masaaki Hatsumi made a fortune selling fantasy ninja books. They know nothing about ninjas or ninjutsu. Please everyone don't buy fake ninja books by authors like Ashida Kim, Haha Lung, Stephen K Hayes and Masaaki Hatsumi. Ashida Kim and Haha Lung are barely martial artists and made up a lot of their material for their books and have no sources of where they learned ninjutsu at, while Stephen K Hayes and Masaaki Hatsumi and all affiliated with him are martial artists, but they are not ninja, they don't study ninjutsu, and they know nothing about ninjutsu or ninjas. Antony Cummins is the only reputable author of books dealing with ninjas and ninjutsu. When I was 11 or 12 years old I wasted my money on ashida kim, Stephen k hayes, and masaaki hatsumi's books because they were the only thing available pertaining to ninjutsu and ninja. Now as a grown man I can see through the lies and the rubbish that were written in their books. Thank you Antony Cummins for all your books. they are truly treasurable. I look forward to any new books of his.

I really like the book - it has a LOT of very good information, and it's compact and thin so I can carry it around easily. It saved me a good deal of go-look-it-up time, too. Only two downsides:Thing One - a few of the entries include a too-clipped version of the definition. The example that comes to mind is the word, "cincture", which is a wide band of cloth (or a soft rope-like belt), used tied at the waist over a cassock (or alb). The wording in parenthesis was not included, but WAS something I needed to know, since our chapel uses albs with robe cinctures often.Thing Two: The binding started falling apart after I'd used it for 3 weeks. Maybe it's only my copy, but the binding doesn't seem very robust - or even nominally so - so I'm worried that pages may fall out.That said - the Good far outweighs the Bad and I highly recommend it.

I bought this book to use as a stepping stone to learn wood carving. The thought process was that the techniques used to carve soap would be similar to those needed for wood carving. As it turns out, it is more. This book is written for beginners like me. The casual, easy approach is both interesting and easy to follow. Never having been the "artsy" type, I was pleased to discover that the projects presented are so appropriate for learning and skill development. The explanations, as well as the processes, are easy to grasp and follow. So much so that Complete Guide To Soap Carving can be shared with my young (early teens) grandson. He was even able to fashion his own carving tools from popsicle sticks. Everything he needs to carve soap fits nicely into a small plastic box about the size of a loaf of bread and costs less than $20, including the soap. Because it is so well presented, carving a simple bar of soap is relaxing. I am delighted with my purchase.Janet Bolyard has done a great job writing this book and presenting it in an easy to follow delightful style. I absolutely recommend this book.

So far so good. The projects are great. Wish there we quick easy 10 step sheet for kids to get started with . My kid wanted to get right to carving with out reading the whole book. Pictures and templates are great and I can see my child making his own templates in the future.

Purchased several copies as gifts over the holidays plus the materials listed for the projects and made them into gift baskets. Gave them to my teenage granddaughters and an adult friend of the family. I've had great feedback from them. They've all stated that the instructions are clear and concise & the illustrations and pictures are super helpful and easy to follow. I highly recommend for anyone looking for something different to try or for anyone who enjoys hands-on crafts.

There are patterns for the projects in the back of the book. In the end of the book the author explains what soaps worked best for her and what worked best for the delicate flower carvings. Just to make this an even better book, there is also a section, complete step-by-step with pictures, on how to make your our soap blocks! I found this an excellent book! Because of my love of all things crafty, I am always on the lookout for new projects outside my comfort zone. I have been sculpting in clay for 10+ years but i had never heard of soap carving so I was intrigued. This book is a great introduction to soap carving that has tons of photos showing step by step instruction not only for carving but also how to make the necessary tools (she also shows how to make tools for children without sharp points). Bolyard includes lots of templates and explains how to use them as well as how to make your own. Don’t fear making mistakes because Bolyard has you covered here too as she details a technique to fix them.No need to worry that a project might be too complex for a beginner - the book has separate sections for beginner and advanced. There are lots of cute projects including a teddy bear, seahorse, penguin, cat, butterfly, beautiful rose and much more. And if you want to have your carved soap on a rope, Bolyard shows you how to do that too. In the advanced section, Bolyard explains another technique called Melt and Pour which allows you to create thin slices, which works great for flower petals, and sharp angles.This is a fun book that will keep you busy for hours on end. And, if you don’t want to use Bolyard’s technique for fixing your mistakes with the slurry meld method, just take the soap with you next time you shower! This book teaches the reader how to carve soap. The author started by demonstrating how to make simple, wooden carving tools from popsicle sticks. (These are safer to use than wood carving tools.) She also explained how to select soap for carving and the basic carving techniques. She provided illustrated step-by-step instructions on how to make 26 different soap sculptures like the ones on the front cover. She included templates in the back of the book for the animals and objects in the projects.Most of these projects created 3D sculptures, but a few involved simply carving a shape into the front of the soap. Many of the projects were beginner projects, but she also included more advanced projects. This looks like a fun craft to try and it doesn't take a lot of time or expense. Most of the projects take 15 to 45 minutes, with a few of the more advanced projects taking an hour or two. Overall, I'd recommend this book to anyone interested in carving soap to make cute, stylized animals and objects.I received an ebook review copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley.

A very good review about the main topics in economics and finance, unfortunately (lyke many US/European books) the only “international” section is the upstream contracts discussion. The other ones use examples related with USA. Nevertheless, a good reference book.

This book is interesting and the information within is timely and valuable. The most impressive thing to me was the liberal use of charts, and references within the book that actually work perfectly in a digital format. I read it on both my pc and tablet and the re sizing of the images and the ability to quickly return to page after clicking on a link for a resource is very nice. I often have books that if I click on a link to appendix it will not get me back to where I was.The one thing I would like to see done, a lot of work, but it has a fabulous index that appears in back, but of course no page numbers but also no links back to book locations.The book was so informative and easy to use that it enticed me to purchase two other from the Robert Kolb series. I had never been aware of this series but I can see myself working my way through the majority of them if they are as well done and written as this one.

"Energy Finance and Economics" is an excellent book for the student who is seeking to learn more about the industry or for the industry professional that needs a refresher on how the industry operates. The book provides the layperson an excellent starting point for an introduction to the world of energy finance and also provides sound, accurate data for industry professionals seeking to brush up on his or her skills. I would not recommend this book to someone with absolutely no knowledge of finance though. The book assumes the reader has at least had some exposure to finance.After taking a college course utilizing this book as its required text and being an industry professional myself, I found that I was still able to learn a great deal from each chapter. The book is exceptionally informative and will remain in my library for quite some time as a reference guide when I need to look something up for work. It is also a relatively easy read. It is not too boring for those of us who have an active interest in the topics of energy and finance.

This book is very well laid out and covers topics in a real world setting rather than in academic theory. I was able to see why the material was selected and why each example was used in this book. I took Betty Simkins course at Oklahoma State on my own time after I purchased the book and she is extremely knowledgeable, easy to approach and an industry experienced lady. I was further impressed when the company I recently joined gives a copy of this book to each employee for review and reference...and the management has no ties to Oklahoma State University or to the Simkins'.Very good purchase and you will be happy you took the time to read.

This book is one of the most comprehenisve works on the O&G industry I have ver read. It covers a wide range of topics gives a complete review of the essentials for the aspiring professional.

A woman who was born into more tha a little wealth, wearing haute couture as a youngster, from Coco Chanel, herself, while being regarded as an "ugly duckling" by her own mother. She grew up to become one of the world's most alluring women. Her sway over pop culture and fashion, her domineering lust for beauty and her great love for youth and diversity created a template that is unparalleled. She had made the definitive case for fashion, especially haute couture, as an art form. Her sense of rigor, discipline, style, beauty and fantasy are the stuff of which any true culture is made. The true testament of her unerring eye is that everyone she chose to discover are icons of their field, to this day. Every. Single. One. The book is a testament to her taste level. Were she male, scholarships, schools & awards would be executed in her name. However, because she's seen as an "eccentric" and being female, she is not viewed as a true American who has contributed to the taste and status of America, independent of Europe.As Patrick Swayze's character, Miss Vida Boheme, stated so eloquently in "To Wong Foo:Thanks For Evberything, Julie Newmar", buy it, read it, then, commit sections to memory. This is a true memoire - the recollections of a dynamically original woman whose influence will be felt for years to come. It is not absolutely factual, and no one will care! Diana Vreeland's career is astonishing. I remember seeing the amazing shows that she curated at the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum - a great climax to an amazing career. And lest anyone think that fashion is trivial, it is a driving force of the world- which can be positive or negative. This book should be purchased along with Vreeland's documentary "The Eye needs to Travel" - hearing Vreeland's voice is essential.

Outrageous, colorful, and in no way 100% true, D.V. is an all around fun read! The vignettes of such larger than life characters such as Coco Chanel, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Charles Revson (he always had a look in his eyes), Aly Khan, General de Gaulle, and the rather dizzying array of other 20th century personalities who are given the D.V. treatment are pure fun. The inimitable Mrs. V. addresses the reader as if the two of you are nestled in a comfy corner in her living room, and she's confiding her memoirs, mixed with the advice a favorite aunt would give.I loved the descriptions of Mrs. V's personal style, from the cheapness of prewar couture, to the Chinese red nail lacquer, to her introduction of the thong sandal to America. I adored it all; the flamboyance, the insouciant commentaries on American hypocrisy, the rather sly way she comments on her dismissal from Vogue. What a personality!I'm off to search for a lady's maid; some shoes whose soles are worthy of polishing, so I can cross my legs in confidence; and for some silk underclothes in greige. Oh, wait. You say that's not possible in this day and age? No doubt the divine Mrs. V. would find a suitable replacement, and with her trademark style. If only she was still around!

I've heard that not every word of "D.V." is necessarily, you know, true. Well, whatever. In an age of fraud and being less than truthful to the public, it's permissible here because D.V. has such a good time, and really, we'll never know with someone who led a life that epitomized the meaning of glamor and style. D.V. is from the era just before tabloidery, going commando, and movie stars traveling with stylists, and her memoir is less about real events than how one person decided to do it all in grand style. While I usually balk at any personal histories that seem a bit too much on the "so privileged, la-di-dah" side, D.V.'s prose reveals only her elegance and her joy at being around style and trendsetting in all its forms - art, achievement, derring-do.Her madcap writing, asides, and tangents provide little snippets about how she felt people ought to comport themselves, and if you aren't terribly on the very serious side, you will enjoy it or at least enjoy getting to know Mrs. Vreeland. Let's hope that we make a return to style being something more than where you got your hat. Or let's bring back hats.

I just loved this book - I couldn't stop chuckling - one of the campiest things I've read since all the Patrick Dennis novels. I actually thought it was a straight forward biography, and I purchased it after watching a documentary of her on Amazon Prime, but I was pleasantly surprised to find it much more - after all, if I had wanted straight biography I could read wikipedia!
