I was really looking forward to reading this book, especially since I had just read Bobbie Brown's "Dirty Rocker Boys" Book- which was basically about him. I wanted to get Tommy's point of view about their relationship. But she didn't get one mention from him. Nothing?! Only Pamela mentions "someone named Bobbie Brown." Really? He only was engaged to Bobbie, and had her name tattooed on his neck- which he didn't recommend doing. But as with her, he didn't really go into detail about his relationship with his ex Heather either. It's almost like Pamela had final edit approval (removal) over that.The beginning of the book was just the worst- his private anatomy "talks" and he describes his "skills." Ugh. Aside from that, it's an ok book- he goes from ridiculous to almost down-to-earth, and back again. He was surprisingly close to his parents, but you won't learn too much more about him from this book, oh, and he likes the word "craise."

This is not quite 5 stars for me, but it was well worth my time and the purchase price. I read it over a three day period and I got tons of enjoyment out of it. I'm really glad that I read this book to get Tommy's personal take on several different things that happened to him, especially being married to Heather Locklear and Pamela Anderson. I was also interested in Tommy's account of going to jail, about a young boy that sadly died in his pool, and the passing of his father, being raised by his parents etc. Of course, many other great topics and stories are covered. I think a better rating would be about 4.6 stars, because that represents a percentage of the book that I totally enjoyed. The .4 remaining I sometimes felt was rather dumb, but it's not a big deal. I got many good giggles from the entertaining way Tommy expresses himself. I am familiar with Anthony Bozza and he does an excellent job finding the voice of the person he's writing for. I really felt that the writing style was completely Tommy talking. I can't guarantee someone else will like this, but it was good for me. It's not exactly the self-improvement type of book that I like to read, but I felt that in my own context of life, I identified with Tommy in a certain way. I've been epically misunderstood, and I think Tommy is misunderstood. The man personifies the idea of a rock star. He's wickedly talented. Post Motley Crue, it's probably true to say that he's the most talented of the four in that bunch. A true artist. Seemingly a lovable guy. That is all. :)

Entertaining, insightful and fun. Glad he didn't do the play by play of motley crue. It's been done to death. The book was about HIM. A lot of reviews complain about the notes from his famous appendage. I found them to be totally tongue in cheek, fitting of his personality. Most of these books are ego trips about all the groupies, this book went in depth about his marriages, kids and the hell he went through in jail. Good, fast read.

I am huge fan of Motley Crue and of Tommy Lee as a drummer. Was disappointed in this. If you know him then you already know that a certain part of his anatomy has been a major part of his life and don't need him talking from his ****'s point of view. Would rather he just talk honestly about his relationships.

To me this seemed like "Let's write a short book and make some fast money." If you're going to write a book, write a book, not just a few chapters of chosen parts of your life. Most guys don't have conversations with our dick, and having it chime in throughout the book made it even worse. His short "responses"to his editor in England only made him sound like a pompous ass. Aside from that, it was great...

First of all that is a straight five-star read. Why? Because those are just one person's thoughts on the life he's lived, and other stuff. Makes sense to either agree or disagree. It's all in the disclaimer, so just give it a quick look before either committing to the story, or walking away.I do have a habit of judging books by either the aftertaste they leave, or the amount of fun I had while reading them. This is by far one of the most fun reads, and I it's amazing, because there are no underdeveloped characters, most of the events are surreal, and overall it was a read worth spending 2 days on (and some bucks).So, if you decide to read it, get used to the fact that sometimes you would think "there it is, you said it, so true", and sometimes you would shake your head no, but you might learn something.It's also partly a more simple, not overdramatic look at the same events from the Dirt, and Heroin Diaries. Anyway, apparently it's time to move on to next autobiography).

I enjoyed this book. It was definitely written in Tommy's voice which made it feel genuine. He's lived a crazy life and was upfront about it and didn't try to make himself look better or like a victim. This book was funny, honest, and made him a lot more relatable in my opinion. If you enjoyed The Dirt you'll probably enjoy this: give it a read.

I love Motley Crue, but this book did not keep my interest. I finished it in hope's it would get better, but it didn't. I've seen Motley Crue several times , and like the book , it seems good at first, like their first show, but like their last show, it only got more boring. But the bad concerts was Vince Neil's for forgetting the words.. Tommy does great live... he should stick to music, not writing.

It's fascinating to see how his religious mind roves into these obscure domains of psychology and physics, and it's inspiring to see how his curious and penetrating intellect approaches these topics.Regardless of how religious you are, Augustine’s singular devotion is ultimately admirable. God for him is goodness, and Confessions reveals a life wholly devoted to the highest principles of virtue as Augustine understood them. "This is the happy life, to rejoice to Thee, of Thee, for Thee; this is it, and there is no other. For they who think there is another, pursue some other and not the true joy."

It might seem pointless to write a review of one of the cornerstones of Christian literature, yet I purchased this particular edition after struggling with the first chapter of the less expensive Kindle edition of the Pusey translation. I am glad I did. The grammar of Augustine's Latin Silver Age easily handles stylistic complexities that are not natural to modern English, and this translation by Henry Chadwick renders Augustine's prose brilliantly. It reveals not so much a saint with a tortured past as a passionate and thoughtful young man sustained and drawn by a love for truth, beauty, and friends on a journey in search of the source of them, which Augustine finds in the God preached by the Catholic faith. Unlike Newman's "Apologia pro Vita Sua," the "Confessions" are not a defense of a life so much as a hymn of praise of the one who led him and gave it meaning. Augustine realizes that nothing was happenstance, but that God walked with him throughout the journey. One could view this story as a journey from alienation to fulfillment, but abstractions sell it short. In many ways, it is a love story in which the protagonist overcomes difficulties to find his true love. In confessing his journey, Augustine reveals an astonishingly modern self-awareness. He understands himself as a person with a personal history, influenced both by social and cultural conditions and inner drives. Readers in our day may well find in him a mentor in their search for meaning in life. This book became a cornerstone of the Western Christian spiritual tradition and remains fundamental reading. I highly recommend this translation.

In the late seventies as I worked on a master’s degree in agricultural economics, my best friend, who had just entered seminary, encouraged me to undertake study of classics in the faith and early on I read Augustine’s (1978) Confessions. The Confessions proved to be a challenging read both because of my lack of seminary training and because of the old English translation. When I undertook this year to write my own memoir, my friend encouraged me to return to the Confessions both because the Confessions provided a template for all memoirs to follow and because this time I also had seminary training.Convinced of the wisdom to return to the Confessions, I sought a more modern translation that would be easier to read and, to my delight, found a translation by E.J. Sheed with an introduction by Augustinian biographer, Peter Brown. Brown (2000) is revered as one of the leading Augustinian biographers of our time and I had used his biography during my days in seminary.I break this review up into four parts. In the first part, I give an overview of the Confessions and why we are interested. In the second part, I review the life of Augustine and sin, as he describes it. In the third part, I will focus on Augustine’s coming to faith. And, in the fourth part, I will review his theological writings, which focus on the creation accounts in Genesis.Background on AugustineFor those unfamiliar with church history, Augustine of Hippo (354-430 AD) , which was in modern-day Algeria, lived right after the time of Emperor Constantine the Great (272-337 AD) who made Christianity the official religion of the Roman Empire. Bishop Ambrose baptized Augustine who had such contemporaries as Jerome, who translated the Bible in Latin. The fourth century posed a heady time for the Christian church and Augustine’s theology influenced much of what followed. For example, Martin Luther (1483-1546), a leader in the reformation more than a thousand years later, was an Augustinian monk (Bainton 1995, 25).Of contemporary significance is the point that Augustine hailed from Africa where some of the best theology and early Bible manuscripts were copied. African scholarship dominated the early church and this dominance continued until the Islamic invasion in the sixth century, following the life and work of Mohammad (570-632 AD). The statement that Christianity is a “white man’s religion” (widely touted in developing countries) is not historically accurate and denigrates the significant contribution of African scholarship to the early church.What Are the Confessions?Augustine came to Christ as an adult. In his introduction, Peter Brown writes:“On Easter day, April 24th, 387, he [Augustine] had ‘put on Christ’ by receiving baptism at the hands of Ambrose.” (xv)Shortly before the death of his mother, Monica, who was a devout Catholic, later that year. Augustine supported himself teaching rhetoric, was heavily influenced by the writings of Plato, and wrote the Confessions to be read aloud. Each of the thirteen books could be read in about an hour’s time (xvi-xviii). Brown writes:“For, as Catholic bishop, Augustine did not simply know ‘about’ the Bible, or preach ‘on’ the Bible. He prayed out of it every day, using especially the book of Psalms, which he believed to be the direct, personal prayers of King David, and so the model of all Christan, as they had been of all Jewish, prayer.” (xvii-xviii)The influence of the Bible on the confessions is obvious to any reader because Augustine frequently begins a particular section in prayer and cites scripture throughout, allusions to which the editor has conveniently footnoted.Less obvious to the reader is the definition that Augustine used for confession. As noted by the editor’s glossary, for Augustine confession could be:1. a profession of faith,2. praise of God, or3. an act of penance (self-accusation).Today, we primarily assume the last definition (329).In his book, Confessions, Augustine of Hippo describes his life before and after converting to Christianity as an adult. Augustine shamelessly lays out the sins of his life, saying:“Let the mind of my brethren love that in me which You teach to be worthy of love, and grieve for that in me which You teach to be worthy of grief.” (191)I take this statement to mean that Augustine proposes to be frankly forthright in confession so that he can be an example to others. Is it any wonder that people trusted him and followed him into the monastic life? Having read the Confessions as a young man, I truly believe that they helped lead me to live ascetic lifestyle, even after it was no longer a financial necessity. After I bought my Voyage I added this book to my book collection because no device manual was included with my Voyage. Yes it has a user guide included preinstalled but this includes basic information. I found I wanted more information and Steve's book game me this. It was is easy to understand and gave me all the information I needed. I also have the paper book version which makes it easy to try things on my Voyage with a reference guide at my finger tips. Anyone with a Voyage should own this helpful book.

For those whose knowledge of the Russian Civil War is limited ( as mine was ) this book provides a great overview of the "White" & Other Forces involved in the conflict. It also has Great Color illustrations of the various uniforms worn & weapons carried and many B&W photos of those who fought on those various sides. It is a great read that will spur one on to want more information on what contributed to Russian & World History for the next 70 years or more...

ESPECIALLY NEEDING IS AN ACCOUNT OF THE FATE OF SOME OF THE WHITE LEADERS. A FULLER NARRATIVE ABOUT THE BATTLES WITH RED FORCES WOULD HAVE HELPED. AS USUAL I WOULD LIKE TO SEE MORE DETAILS ON MEDALS AND INSIGNIA, BUT ALL IN ALL THIS WAS NICELY DONE.

This civil war dwarfed all others of the 20th Century in scope and significance. The lives of tens of millions were lost or changed forever in the ensuing conflagration-from battle, disease, famine, imprisonment, execution, dislocation, and exile. New weapons of war emerged. The airplane, armored car, tank, and armored train wee tested over the vast expanses of Russia, the largest country in the world, in a war of mobility not seen on the relatively static fronts that characterized World War One. Even so, the older weapons of war remained. This was the last war in which cavalry armies duelled en masse, sword on lance. Bugles still rang and unfurled flags fluttered above infantry charging into the steel mouths of guns. More than two dozen countries took part in these torturous years of civil war. Peripheral regions of the former Russian Empire that had broken away to form new nations had to fight for independence: Finland, Poland, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia, and Azerbaijan. Other countries directly intervened in the conflict as a consequence of events arising out of World War One, including Great Britain, France, Italy, Canada, Japan, Germnay, Austria-Hungary, Romania, Greece, the Ottoman Empire, and the United States. Still others participated in the fighting because their troops were trapped inside Russia at the end of World War One, such as Serbia and Czechoslovakia, or fought because the civil war spilled over into their territory, for example, Mongolia and China. At the end, the maps of Northeastern and Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, Central Asia, and the Far East had to be redrawn. Soon after the 1917 February revolution, and the abdication of Czar Nicholas II, the White cause began to emerge and oppose the Bolsheviks. There was, however, no single, united White Army to fight the Red Army and the forces available to the Whites represented a spectrum of political factions including monarchist military organizations and Social-Democrats. Many of the Cossack hosts also sided with the Whites, seeing it as an opportunity to create their own independent states; others remained neutral or hostile to both sides. This was followed by a second deployment of 1,886 on the USS Sheridan and 1,811 on the USS Logan in September, 1918 to Russia. Prior to the above deployments, were the deployments of the 27th and 31st Infantry Regiments from the Philippines on the USS Merritt, USS Crook, and USS Warren to Russia via Japan in early August, 1918. They were the first U.S. Army units to arrive in Vladivostok. Seventy-five U.S. Marines from the USS Brooklyn (the flagship of the U.S. Asiatic Fleet) were reinforced by fifty U.S. Marines from the USS New Orleans (it had sailed from Cavite, Philippines).Lt. This particular book deals with the "White" (capitalist) armies which were trying to crush the new Bolshevik Party and their new Red Army which had taken over the Russian government in October of 1917.

The birsk 48 page read provided some useful insight into the structure of the White Army of the Russian Civil War such as there close collaboration with Kuban and Don Cossacks also the multi-layered nature of the anti-Bolshevik movement as a whole from the right wing monarchists to the arachist partisans that fought red and white. i really loved the plates on the black uniformed officers units. Buy it!!!

When I was in college, The Gregg Reference Manual was referred to by the professors as "The Bible". Just like the title says, it covers all the bases for all your writing needs at least on the business level of Style, Grammar, Usage, and Formatting. The book gets better with each edition adding new things to keep up with the technology of today's world. My favorite section of the book it the words that sound alike but spelled differently. Whenever I am not sure which word to use, like "Affect" and "Effect", I head to the GRM. If I am not sure on term papers or reports, I head to the GRM. It is a great book for secretaries and administrative assistants. They have added new sections to keep up with computer usage as in my days of high school and college, we were using manual and electric typewriters and computers are now the basic source for typing correspondence, reports, and all the computer software used in today's business world. I will always buy the latest edition, even though earlier editions, they only change a few words or things, but this is the best reference book to have in your library like a dictionary and thesaurus is.

I am attending college right now and I am taking a course where this book was required. I am glad it was required because I am able to use it for my other courses. I will definitely be keeping this book FOREVER, even after I graduate. This book should be given out free by the colleges to all new students that enroll in college, because it can be helpful in any of the courses where you have to write papers. i.e.: English 101,102,103, etc...AWESOME book!!! If they come out with a newer version, I will likely by that one also....

I purchased this book because a professional mentor of mine shared with me how valuable her book was to her. I must admit it has the answer to seemingly any grammar question one could ask. The only challenge I face with the book is finding what I'm looking for. I am so used to using Google to simply state: "When to use then or than," that looking through a reference manual seems tedious. Overall the book is a great resource once you familiarize yourself with how to search your topic.

I was debating buying this book or Chicago Manual of Style (CMS).Found CMS @ my local library, and was turned off by its sheer weight/volume. Nonetheless, I opened it for a perusal, and found that its a tough book to navigate. Those are the only two cons you'll find with that book. Besides, it still remains the go-to book in the publishing business. But if you are an aspiring/pro fiction writer, then 'The Gregg Reference Manual' is the perfect fit. This book is not cumbersome, visually appealing, and easy to use.So far, I haven't seen anything this book lacks that a writer needs. I had problems like formatting: Here, specifically, it had to do with the Chapter page. I wanted to know how many line spaces down do I go before typing in the Chapter + chapter title. Other books I have say 1/3 of the way down. Of course not many people can translate that. Here, this manual was more clear -- 6 lines down. This is just one example of many.A definite recommend.FINAL NOTE: I'd recommend buying any edition from 2009 or beyond. Reason being certain updates in writing rules have been introduced e.g Instead of the use of underlined words for emphasis, italics is the 'new norm'.

Really great book for editors, writers, etc. I am a scopist, and this resource is invaluable to me. My favorite section is the list of compound words that often get misspelled, like "day care" vs. "daycare." Can't beat the price. So glad I bought this.

This book contains so much information in it! It is a great book to have if you work in an office or if you are writing a lot of papers, or if you just are interested in proper writing techniques. I had to get this book for a class, and most people re-sell their school textbooks, but this one is one I will be keeping for my bookshelf forever. I really feel like it will be a handy book to fall back on later down the road in my career field.

Handy for business and school environment. Useful for an occasional reference in grammar. For example, it's easy to forget the usage of a semicolon and colon when you don't use it all the time.

I recently attended a business writing class where the instructor recommended this book.
